Kwila looks and feels like a hardwood deck, and it ages beautifully with one coat of CD50 oil a year. Composite needs no oiling at all, but it doesn't have the same depth of grain. For most Christchurch homeowners we'll recommend Kwila on the north-facing, visible decks. Composite for pool surrounds, rentals, and anything that won't get regular maintenance.
Yes - and we do them properly. Low-level decks sit closest to the ground, which is where most decks rot first. We special-order H4 Treated Structural SG8 joists from the sawmill and lay permeable weedmat underneath. Most builders skip both steps - they're harder to source and invisible once the boards go down.
Usually, yes. Our 1T Kubota gets down to 750mm - narrower than most internal doors. We bring it onsite for ground clearance under decks, retaining-wall footings and tight-section landscaping. If we can't get it through, we'll tell you on the site visit.
If your build needs one, we handle the full process - drawings, submission, sign-off. If it doesn't need a consent, we'll tell you that too, rather than add it to the invoice.
